What happens if gay bashing got so bad that the US exiled every homosexual off to an island and allowed no contact with the mainland? This is the main premise of Meadowlark Sings. The romances of the main characters is well done. A bit of mystery is thrown in involving the supporting characters. If you can get past the implausibility of the whole concept of 'gay gene', some silly dialogue (yelling, giggling, and lots of rofl), and a bit of het-bashing, then you'll like the book.
